UK Casino staff votes for Smoking ban
September 02, 2005
Sixty percent of the UK casino staff wants smoking to be
banned in their workplace reports a study conducted by Paul
Pilkington of the University of the West of England. Casino
workers are worried about their health associated with the
exposure to smoke in casinos.
The health study carried out in partnership with GMB and
TGWU trade unions points out the ill effects of tobacco
smoke. Casino employees who work longer shifts in smoky
environments get little natural ventilation. But since casinos
are private member clubs there are lesser chances that it
will be made smoke-free. About forty percent of smokers
who work in casinos have also supported smoke ban for a
healthy cause. The UK government has stepped up campaigns
promoting the side effects of smoking and weight related
problems which have become the two main health concerns
in UK.
